It was a very busy week at Pleasant Valley!  But the big news is our first Study Island contest winners!  Congratulations to Sean Blaney and Santiago LoGiudice for winning the $25.00 gift cards to Target. Special mention to Thomas Bridler and Spencer Shifs for earning over 40 blue ribbons during the 7-day contest period.  We hope are students are enjoying Study Island, and we will be holding more contests in the upcoming months!
REFLECTIONS UPDATE
A big thank you to everyone who participated in the Reflections program at school.  This year's theme was WOW!   We had great participation in the Visual Arts category, some Photography and some Literature.  The top 5 entries in each category went on to the District level to compete with all the other Marin county schools.  What an accomplishment!  Pleasant Valley is pleased to recognize Taylor Boothe as the top winner for literature and will be going on to the State level of competition.  Only the top one in each category moves on to the State level so this is quite an accomplishment.  Good luck Taylor !  I will be picking up the entries and returning them to your children at school this week.  Please check with them to see they are returned for your art galleries at home!

School Fuel News

"A CENTURY OF GENTLE SEASONS, A HISTORY OF NOVATO" DVD SALES TO BENEFIT SCHOOL FUEL

Zan Media has recently released a one-hour DVD about Novato
called "A Century of Gentle Seasons, A History of Novato."
Owners Don and Chris Scioli produced this one hour video as a
"small tribute to a great city." The business is named after the
first initials of their three children, Zack, Alex and Niki --
who all attended Novato's public schools from kindergarten
through high school. It's a fun, fast paced and entertaining peek into what makes Novato so unique, community centric and slightly eccentric. There's a lively section on our schools in the past and present, hosted by longtime resident and Novato educator Louise Koenig, and even a section that recalls the antics of Principal Lu Sutton, who always wore black dresses and could beat all the young boys at marbles! You might even see yourself walking the streets during one of the annual Novato events showcased in this video.

The DVD costs $20.00 of which $5.00 will be donated to SchoolFuel.

Visit http://www.novatohistory.com OR call 897-8393 to
learn more about the video or to order a copy.

LIBRARY BOOK CLUB
Library Book Club '09 was a huge success!

This year, we had over half the student body participate in P.V.'s Library Book Club! This means, because of your child's participation in this event, our library received approximately 220 new books for the students to enjoy! The book club students were the first to check out a brand new book and with that new book, came a special personalized dedication label that was placed inside the front cover for future readers to see. The students were thrilled! Please be on the lookout early next school year for the Library Book Club sign-up form. You won't want to miss it!

An enormous thank you goes out to all the PV Staff and parent volunteers who made the book club a complete success: Sara Kram, Monique Etchevers, Sherry Clark, Terry Brown, Julie Spaan, Juan Navarro, Mike Harris, Kerri Baetkey, Abby Koniaris, Erica Allen, Kathy Towey, Kristi Steadman, Wendy Cendak, Kristen McAndrew, Danielle Buoncristiani, Kelly Rasmussen, Vicky Meblin, Leslie Resnick, Heather Sargent, Michelle Robertson, Connie Blake, Teresa McGuire, Juli Walker, Rebecca Glasser, Michelle Abell, Kim Overstreet, Gretchen Polkinghorne, Dominica Rossman, Linda Blum, Katie Lucey, Lisa Breheney, Anna Chin, Alicia Watson, Kris Starn, Chris McCormick, Audrey van Hoven, and last but certainly not least, a very special thank you to Carole Williams, who helped me every step of the way!

Thanks again!

MEMORY BOOK REMINDER
Just a quick reminder that we sent out notices to all families that had NOT ordered their 2008-2009 Memory Book.  Monday is the very last day that you can turn in your order form.  Don't miss out, because when we hand out the books in June, we don't like to see sad little faces!  Cost is $20.00, and this years' book is sure to be packed full of fun photos from all the great events and activities that happened throughout the year.  If you have any questions, or are unsure if you ordered a memory book, please contact the office.

INTENT TO RETURN FORMS
Attention All Families!  About 2 weeks ago, an "Intent To Return" form was sent home with all K-4 students.  To date we have received back all but 24.  Thanks to those who have returned them.  To the remaining 24, please turn this form in by Monday, or there is the possibility that there will not be a spot for your child at PV next year.  If you are unsure if you have turned in the form, please contact the office on Monday.
