Letter From the PTA President

October 19, 2007

Dear Parents, Teachers and PV Community,

Are private schools superior to public schools? An article entitled, "Parents Play a Big Role in Academic Success" (referenced on the National PTA website - www.pta.org) challenges this presumption. The author says that parent involvement in day-to-day schoolwork and parental expectations are bigger factors than the type of school.

That's such a huge statement it bears repeating: parent involvement in day-to-day schoolwork and parental expectations are bigger factors in our children's academic success than the type of school (private v. public). It thrills me as a parent and as a member of PTA that the Pleasant Valley School Community already gets this.

Our next PTA meeting is this Monday, October 22, at 3:30 p.m. in the school library. The meeting agenda is posted on the board outside of the school's main office. Last meeting we had PV students from Cub Scout Pack 85 lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance. This Monday we're honored to have PV students from Girl Scout Troop 326 present a flag ceremony. PTA meetings are open to everyone and we encourage all to attend.

Please continue to Write the President at tdavidson@pves.info, to share your ideas, questions, and concerns with the PTA. If you haven't already joined the PTA, pick up an application and join today. You can make PTA a better association.

Letter From the PTA President

September 10, 2007

Dear Parents, Teachers and Pleasant Valley School Community,

On behalf of all students at Pleasant Valley School I send a big "Thank You!" for your involvement and devoted support of the PTA. Our children need you. And you are there. Thank you!

Already this year the PTA has received creative ideas from parents regarding ways to improve PTA services, fundraising efforts and communications. We will be discussing these ideas at upcoming PTA meetings and encourage all parents and concerned adults to attend and contribute to these discussions regularly.

Your support last year enabled the PTA to fund enrichment programs for all grade-levels. Enrichment provides students opportunities to learn material in greater depth and breadth. Your support furnished classroom supplies, helped with computer maintenance, assemblies, campus improvement projects, and provided many of our school's Wish List items, including lunch tables, books for kindergarten, visual and performing arts for the 2nd grade, the 3rd and 4th grade Falkirk program and performing arts/dance/movement programs, an academic support person, a staff room and a variety of after school programs.

My personal dream is that every student at Pleasant Valley School is not only represented by the collective body of PTA members, but also individually and personally by a parent or guardian in PTA. Can you imagine the value that 100% membership in PTA could bring to our school? Exciting thought!

Whether you can volunteer thirty minutes or a hundred hours, your involvement makes a difference! The PTA is for our children. And you are the PTA. Thank you for being there!

Tim Davidson, President
